Challenges: Renovate the existing home to utilize existing second floor space more effectively, open up the excellent rear view of Honolulu, create a master bedroom suite with bedroom, sitting area, closet and full master bath (tub, shower, two vanities, toilet) and a new second ensuite bath for the second bedroom.
Replace old, corroding piping and wiring with new. Maintain the historical character and charm of the well constructed large colonial built in the early 1930’s. Replace old broken appliances (oven & warming drawer) in a very narrow oven cabinet and complete various cabinetry details.
Solutions: The second bedroom is now the master bedroom and visa versa. The existing rear porch was completly redesigned to create a new sitting area that enjoys five windows overlooking the ocean and city lights below, with a refreshing breeze; a new walk in closet (they are never large enough!) and a light and open new master bath with Jacuzzi tub, corner shower with subway tiles and glass panels, two vanities in a white painted Shaker style door and plumbing & electrical fixtures selected to replicate the fixtures of the period. Paint colors were painstakingly selected to respect both contemporary and historical aesthetics. New copper water lines and PVC waste & vent lines for both bathroom provide for excellent plumbing service and a new sub panel now feeds all the electrical wiring to the renovated area.
